Cycling is one of the greatest pleasures in life, we can all easily agree on this.

A bicycle can take you anywhere, a bicycle gives you the ultimate outdoor experience, it brings you wellness, happiness, pure joy. A bicycle brings people together, it reduces your stress and boosts your health.

We firmly believe that such a beneficial activity should be part of everyone’s life, no one excluded.

Unfortunately if you’re affected by autism you might miss all of this. In fact the lack of sense of danger and very low attention levels that characterize an autistic behavior can be extremely limiting when riding a bike.

It's a shame because riding a bike involves physical and psychic stimuli that could give a person with autism a net improvement in their overall abilities,
reducing stress levels, stereotypes, crises.

Although there could be a solution to all of this in these special tandem bikes called HUGBIKE http://hugbike.com/ .

Two-seater bikes where the rear passenger, thanks to an elongated handlebar, is able to control the vehicle, allowing those with autism or other intellectual disabilities to sit in front of them in full security.

The bikes are also ethical...

In fact some parts of the bikes are assembled in Treviso (Italy) by a team of workers with autism, who twice a week spend some time in the bicycle lab, learning, working, boosting their skills, self esteem and relationship abilities.

Our goal is to raise funds to buy at least 3 bicycles and donate them to 3 selected European charities who cope with autism. The bicycles will then be made available to all those families who require their use. Families who will finally start practicing a healthy everyday activity with their beloved ones with autism. Some of our foundation's members have tried the bikes...you could not believe the smile and sense of joy that both kids and parents shared the first time the pedaled together. These are the sensations we want to spread, this is what this campaign is all about.

Each bike costs € 3290,00 (vat incl.)... an expense that unfortunately not all families can afford. Our ambition is to reach enough funds to buy at least three of them and donate them to three different European charities who cope with autism and other intellectual disabilities. Every time we reach enough funds to buy one bike we will select a charity, from a list of potential beneficiaries and proceed with the donation.

A special bike in the heart of Europe

We want to deliver the last bike to Autism Europe, at their head office in Brussels, to ensure that this special bicycle will be available for all their members and families living in the capital. This last donation will be a special one... In fact we have decided that the bike will be delivered by a team of self-advocates with autism from our foundation...

For the first time, the team of young self-advocates (see their picture below) will take a plane, see a new city, stay away from home for a few days, acquiring independence, becoming more skilled and autonomous, learning to deal with new and different situations from their routines.

The foundation was established in 2009, it pursues exclusively charitable purposes, with the intent of assisting, supporting and educating people affected by intellectual or physical disabilities, giving particular attention to subjects affected by pervasive developmental disorder and/or Autism, and to all other physical or intellectual disorders related to this condition.

Vision: A society where all people affected by Autism are assisted, supported and preserved through a safe environment and complete social dignity.
